Types of Pregnancy Ultrasound Scans We Offer

Different stages of pregnancy require different scans. At our clinic, you can get all major pregnancy ultrasounds under one roof:

  • 1. Early Pregnancy / Dating Scan (6–12 Weeks)
Confirms pregnancy location and viability, detects fetal heartbeat, calculates accurate due date, checks number of babies and rules out ectopic pregnancy. Ideal time: 6–8 weeks from last period.
  • 2. Nuchal Translucency (NT) Scan (11–13+6 Weeks)
Screening scan for chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome. Measures fluid at the back of baby’s neck and is usually combined with blood tests for more accurate risk assessment.
  • 3. Anomaly / Level II Scan (18–22 Weeks)
Detailed structural scan to assess baby’s brain, heart, spine, limbs, facial features, kidneys, abdominal organs, placenta and amniotic fluid. Best done around 20 weeks.
  • 4. Growth & Wellbeing Scans (Third Trimester)
Recommended in high-risk pregnancies (diabetes, high BP, twins, decreased movements etc.). Measures fetal growth, fluid index, Doppler blood flow and baby’s position.
  • 5. Biophysical Profile (BPP)
A combined ultrasound and fetal monitoring test in late pregnancy to check breathing movements, body movements, muscle tone and amniotic fluid volume along with heart rate pattern.
  • 6. 3D / 4D Ultrasound (26–30 Weeks)
Provides more detailed images of baby’s face and movements. Helps bonding for parents and can assist in medical assessment of facial structures in selected cases.

Is Pregnancy Ultrasound Safe?

Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation. It has been used in obstetrics for over 40 years and is considered safe when performed by trained professionals. At our clinic, scans are done only when medically indicated and with appropriate settings to ensure fetal safety.

How to Prepare for Your Pregnancy Ultrasound

  • Early Pregnancy (before 12 weeks): A comfortably full bladder (3–4 glasses of water about an hour before) helps get clearer images of the pregnancy and heartbeat.
  • Later Pregnancy (after 12 weeks): Usually no special preparation is required. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to your abdomen.
  • Bring a support person: Your partner or a family member is welcome to accompany you for the scan, subject to clinic policy and space.
  • Carry reports: Please bring previous scan reports, blood tests and any prescriptions so that we can review the full picture.

Important Legal Information (PC-PNDT Act)

As per Indian law, fetal sex determination is strictly prohibited. Our clinic fully complies with the PC-PNDT Act. We do not disclose or determine the sex of the baby under any circumstances. All scans are done only for medical and wellbeing purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my first pregnancy ultrasound?

Most women are advised to have their first scan between 6–8 weeks of pregnancy to confirm viability, heartbeat and due date. If you have pain, bleeding or previous ectopic pregnancy, an earlier scan may be advised.

Do I need a full bladder for every scan?

A full bladder is usually helpful in early pregnancy scans (before 12 weeks). For later pregnancy scans, it is generally not required unless specifically advised.

How long does a pregnancy ultrasound take?

Most routine scans take around 15–30 minutes. Detailed scans like the anomaly scan may take longer, especially if the baby is in a difficult position.

Can the scan harm my baby?

No. When performed by qualified professionals, ultrasound is considered safe. We use only recommended settings and perform scans for appropriate duration.

Do you tell the baby’s gender?

No. As per Indian law (PC-PNDT Act), fetal sex determination is illegal. Our clinic strictly follows all legal guidelines and does not reveal the baby’s gender.
